On this day 40 years ago we lost the king of rock & roll..
He was the king of rock and roll, and it is bittersweet irony then, that Elvis died on the throne, 40 years ago today. The once handsome and lively music legend was found dead in the bathroom of his Graceland mansion aged 42. It is believed he suffered a major heart attack following years of prescription drug abuse.
Despite the global heartbreak at his passing, the Hound Dog singer’s funeral proved to be a celebration of his life and legacy with around 80,000 lining the streets for a typically party-led procession, with President Jimmy Carter issuing a statement that credited Elvis with having "permanently changed the face of American popular culture".
