This Week In… New Idea
While I believe mums, mother figures and other special women in our lives deserve constant adoration, Mother’s Day is always a special time of year. In this issue, we chat to first-time parent Taylah, who feared she’d never get to experience Mother’s Day – and then gave birth to quads! – on page 32. On page 30, entertainment writer Jodie catches up with Aussie TV presenter Laura Csortan, who gets candid on the hardships and joys of single motherhood. If you’re looking to spoil a special mum, nanna, aunt, sister or friend on May 12, flick to our food section, where our test kitchen has put together some gorgeous recipes to help you host high tea at home. To my own mum, happy Mother’s Day – I don’t know what…
Taika’s Shock As Chris Slams Thor!
Chris Hemsworth has taken a surprising dig at his last Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, which was directed by Taika Waititi.
Reflecting on the polarising 2022 release, the 40-year-old star told VanityFairmagazine, “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself.”
Although the criticism was self-directed, it likely stung Taika, who worked with Chris on two standalone Thor releases. But in the same interview, Chris hinted he hadn’t completely ruled out the possibility of retuning to make a fifth Thor movie – but only if the storyline was “exciting and fun” and “a little unpredictable”.
“I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen…
Andy Lee Finally Proposes …On A Napkin!
As well as overseeing a $5 million renovation of their rundown historic Melbourne mansion, Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding now have a wedding to plan!
After 10 years of dating, the couple are finally engaged, with the pair sharing the happy news last week.
On his podcast, Andy, 42, revealed that his proposal harked back to the first time he met Bec, 33, in 2014.
After noticing Bec at the cafe she was working in, Andy wrote down his email address on a napkin and gave it to her. They started dating soon after.
When it came time to propose, Andy took Bec to their “new old house” under the pretence of filming some social media videos. He pretended to get something out of the fireplace, and while on bended…
Barbra’s Social Media Fail
There’s nothing but love between Barbra Streisand and Melissa McCarthy after an awkward Instagram fiasco saw the entertainer publicly asking the actress if she’d used the weight-loss drug Ozempic.
It appears Barbra, 82, intended to privately message Melissa, 53, after she posted a photo of herself with director Adam Shankman. But instead, she replied in the publicly visible comments section!
Seemingly confirming her mistake, Barbra said the next day, “[Melissa] looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”
Melissa laughed the whole thing off, saying, “The takeaway is Barbra Streisand knows I exist … I win the day.”…
Britney’s New Gig
Britney Spears is ready to focus on work after finally settling an outstanding legal case with her father Jamie. The 42-year-old singer has agreed to pay her dad’s $3 million legal bill, following the termination of her controversial conservatorship back in 2021.
New Idea hears Britney has recently re-signed with powerhouse global talent agency CAA, and there are big plans in the works!
“This deal will put her back on the TV talent show panels and back in the [recording] studio,” says the insider.
One such gig could be replacing the departing Katy Perry as a judge on American Idol. The insider adds that Britney has music she wants to develop – and is even open to performing live!…
Carrie’s Great Mission
Carrie Bickmore is planning to run the Great Wall of China marathon – and her co-host Tommy Little is behind her every step of the way!
The former The Project host took to Instagram to reveal she’d signed up for the 21km running event.
“Sometimes you just gotta say yes first,” Carrie captioned the post. “Plus, I like the idea of pushing myself out of my comfort zone.”
The 43-year-old revealed the marathon is only four weeks away – and Tommy is cheering her on!
Commenting on a training pic of Carrier powering up a steep outdoor incline, Tommy, 39, wrote: “You’re hilling it! You’ve got this.”
Other stars have also voiced encouragement, including Michelle Bridges who commented, “Go lady!”…
Jen’s Remaking 9 To 5!
Jennifer Aniston will be working around the clock when production starts on her remake of 9 to 5.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Jen will produce a reimagining of the 1980 film – which starred Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda – via her company Echo Films. Although Jen, 55, is yet to confirm if she’ll take on more than just a producer role, New Idea hears she has been inundated with requests from actresses who want to be part of the cast.
“Everyone wants to be in this movie,” says an insider.”
Although scant details have been released about the remake, our source adds Jen “wants to bring back Dolly, Lily and Jane if they’re available, even if it’s a cameo”.…
Mary & Fred Another Royal Photoshop Disaster!
The Princess of Wales was recently at the centre of a photoshop scandal – and now, the Danish royal family is similarly being accused of dodgy editing practices!
The Danish Royal House released the first official portrait of Frederik and Mary as King and Queen, but eagle-eyed royal watchers have called the picture into question.
“Beautiful photo, but another digitally enhanced royal photo,” replied one fan.
Some online pundits claim the “stiff and awkward” image is the result of two single portraits of Mary, 52, and Frederik, 55, taken separately and merged together.
They pointed out details including the strange closeness between the royals’ upper arms as well as Mary’s hand placement, which appears to cover Fred’s hand.
“It looks like Queen Mary has been put into the photo of…
Deborra-lee’s Fashion Double-Up!
On April 25, Deborra-lee Furness stepped out for a night in New York City draped in a glamorous monochromatic gown. But little did she know that across town, Bridesmaids actress Maya Rudolph rocked up to another event in the exact same frock!
The dress in question is a Gabriela Hearst design from the Resort 2024 collection. The luxurious womenswear designer is very popular with the rich and famous. It appears both Deb, 68, and Maya, 51, felt the pleated gown, which retails for $12,000, was the perfect look for their respective evenings out in the Big Apple.
“Deb truly looked a million bucks,” one onlooker says of Hugh Jackman’s ex-wife. “It seemed as if she was having the best time. Post-divorce life clearly agrees with her!”
Meanwhile, Maya chose to wear…
Baby Reindeer ‘Stalker’ Breaks Cover!
The woman who thinks she inspired Netflix’s latest global phenomenon, Baby Reindeer, could be taking legal action against the streaming giant.
The seven-part series, which has been promoted as a “captivating true story”, was written by and stars Scottish actor Richard Gadd. He plays Donny Dunn, a barman and aspiring comedian who spent four years being plagued by a woman named Martha Scott (Jessica Gunning).
While Richard’s own harrowing stalker experience compelled him to create the show, he said he went to great lengths to conceal Martha’s true identity. But after the show premiered in early April, fans became consumed with locating and exposing the real woman.
Despite Richard insisting “I don’t think she would recognise herself ” and begging fans not to search, it didn’t take long for internet…
